Rick Berrey

After working first for a small general contractor and then one of the largest program managers in the world, Rick came to Richmond intent on growing deep roots and weaving his way into the fiber of the community.  He joined Kjellstrom + Lee in 1999 with that goal in mind, recognizing the rich history of the firm and its longstanding reputation as a leader in Central Virginia’s construction community.

Rick derives great enjoyment and professional satisfaction out of being able to have a hands-on role in overcoming challenges and removing obstacles to allow his clients to achieve their project goals.  He emphasizes that one of the most important aspects of our job as a builder is to make the customer’s journey match the excellence of the buildings we construct.  Rick recognizes that K+L’s people are what makes that journey what it is, so he places a great emphasis on ensuring those same people have the resources, tools, and support to be successful.  With that in mind, he focuses on the culture of the Company where a high priority is placed on making sure the voices of all K+L employees are heard, respected, and appreciated. 

Rick is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and maintains his Professional Engineer license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Away from work, Rick’s favorite pastimes include a round of golf, fishing, and/or just relaxing at the river.  More than anything though, Rick prioritizes quality family time, often at his kids’ sporting events as a spectator or coach.
